As a web developer, one of the most concerning things in my mind over the past 6 months has been the fact that Google has forcefully injected themselves into the ongoing browser-wars with the recent release of Google Chrome (which, as of this writing, STILL does not have a mac version [does google not realize that most designers and web developers use macs?]).
Dear Google,
Stop it.
You are the only one that wants you to take over the world.
Sinc,
Me.
As if Google Chrome wasn’t annoying enough, now they have launched Google Chrome Frame. It is a plug-in for IE users to allow them to come to the modern age of the internet with the rest of us.
Quite honestly, if they aren’t upgrading their browser, why does Google believe they will install a plug-in for more capability? The driving factor behind IE6 still being around is plain ignorance.
I have completely stopped support for IE6. It is time consuming. With a waning market share, it forces clients to pay for more hours of work than they’ll see a benefit from to ensure that their site will be viewed the same in IE6. And, frankly, IE6 does not justify the added hours it takes. Why hasn’t Microsoft forced updates on that browser?
To use the tried and true analogy, Google is handing out band-aids for bullet holes. If the user is knowledgeable enough to want better browser performance – why would anyway waste their time installing this plug-in instead of simply upgrading to a competent browser?
