For the first half of the day, the sky really was that color. The morning winds brought with them a good amount of sand from the northern desert to give everything an eerie yellow glow. Color plays a unique role in the fabric of this city. The people here tend to wear and dark clothing without much color. And I’ve read that, in traditional Chinese painting, color holds a minor symbolic and decorative role. At the same time, it is impossible to miss the striking colors rising out of sea of desaturation.

Today I saw: a yellow sky, a black coat, a green wall, a taupe sea and a red flag.
